தொடரும் நீர்வரத்து காரணமாக மேட்டூர் அணையின் நீர்மட்டம் 117 அடியை தாண்டியது.
கர்நாடகாவில் பெய்த கனமழை காரணமாக அங்குள்ள அணைகளில் இருந்து 2 லட்சம் கனஅடி வரை தண்ணீர் திறக்கப்பட்டது. இதனால், காவிரியில் நீர் வரத்து அதிகரித்து, மேட்டூர் அணையின் நீர்மட்டமும் உயரத் தொடங்கியது.
அணையின் நீர்மட்டம் 100 அடியை தாண்டிய நிலையில் டெல்டா மாவட்ட பாசனத்திற்காக மேட்டூர் அணையில் இருந்து தற்போது வினாடிக்கு பத்தாயிரம் கனஅடி நீரும், கிழக்கு மற்றும் மேற்கு கால்வாயில் 500 கனஅடி நீரும் வெளியேற்றப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.
இந்த நிலையில் மேட்டூர் அணைக்கான நீர்வரத்து 18 ஆயிரம் கனஅடியில் இருந்து 19 ஆயிரம் கனஅடியாக உயர்ந்து அணையின் நீர்மட்டம் 117 அடியை தாண்டியுள்ளது.
நீர் இருப்பு 88 புள்ளி 795 டிஎம்சியாக உள்ளது. நீர்வரத்து தொடர்ந்தால் விரைவில் அணை முழு கொள்ளளளாவான 124 அடியை எட்டி விடும் என விவசாயிகள் மகிழ்ச்சி தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
